NU Psychology grew from a quest to provide strength-based therapy, supporting individuals from a wholistic model. The NU Difference lies in the unique approach to creating change. At NU Psychology an individual’s unique goals, learning style, and strengths and challenges are used to create meaningful change.

We welcome individuals of all ages using the strength-based principles of Positive Psychology, Solution Focused Therapy,  CBT, and ACT. These evidence-based techniques are aimed at maximizing positive emotions as well as aligning thoughts and behaviours with personal values.

Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a supportive therapy that allows individuals to align their actions with their personal goals and values. It encourages individuals to develop flexibility, agency, and to move through thoughts and emotions with fluidity. This movement creates space within, and allows individuals to manage challenges, while making changes that are personally meaningful. The principles of ACT are beneficial in treating many clinical conditions as well as supporting individuals who want to increase general wellness.

Types Of Therapy At Nu Psychology

Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) focuses on problem solving, solution building, and finding creative outcomes for life's challenges.  SFT is rooted in the belief that all individuals have the ability to change and grow in adaptive ways. Solution Focused approaches help individuals to find new ways to face challenges and make changes in their lives. Solution Focused Therapy is helpful in managing symptoms of stress, depression, and finding unique outcomes during times of change or adjustment.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) helps individuals to better notice and understand their thoughts and emotions. As individuals learn to change their thought patterns and related emotions, change can follow suit . Cognitive Behaviour Therapy helps clients to develop an awareness of their thoughts, identify problems more clearly, and learn to distinguish between helpful and unhelpful thoughts. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy supports individuals in creating new habits, patterns, and ways of being. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is especially helpful  in treating Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic, Depression, and OCD.

Positive Psychology provides a platform for individuals to increase overall well-being. Positive Psychology helps individuals to identify factors that contribute to happiness and well-being. This involves building positive emotions, engagement in meaningful activities and relationships, building a sense of one's own efficacy, and the ability to cope with adversity.
