VIRTUAL THERAPY & COUNSELLING
Online Therapy Across Alberta.
Sometimes the hardest part of therapy is getting there. NU Psychology offers secure online therapy for teens, adults, and couples anywhere in Alberta, with the same specialized, evidence-based care you would receive in our Calgary offices, from a space that already feels like yours.
KEY INSIGHT
Research consistently shows that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship challenges. The quality of the relationship with your psychologist, not the room you sit in, is one of the strongest predictors of meaningful change.
Who Can Access Online Therapy
Anyone who is physically located in Alberta at the time of their session can book online therapy with NU Psychology. Our psychologists are registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists, so whether you live in Calgary, a smaller community, or travel within the province for work, support can come with you. If you will be outside Alberta during a session, we'll help you plan an in-person or alternative option.
Online sessions are a strong fit for busy professionals and parents, university students, people living outside the city, and anyone who feels calmer opening up from home. They also offer continuity, so you can keep working with the same psychologist through travel, illness, a move within Alberta, or a Calgary snowstorm.

What Online Therapy Can Help With
Online sessions follow the same evidence-based approaches as in-person therapy, tailored to your goals. Our psychologists offer virtual support for anxiety, depression, burnout and stress, ADHD, OCD, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and more. Couples therapy and teen therapy can also take place online.
Not every psychologist offers online sessions for every service, and some work, such as certain assessments, is best done in person. Our office will help you find the right format for what you need.

Privacy, Ethics & Connection
Online therapy at NU Psychology follows the same confidentiality and ethical standards as in-person care. Sessions take place on a secure, private video platform, and your psychologist will talk with you about privacy and what to do if a connection drops. Many clients are surprised by how personal online therapy feels. The screen fades quickly once the conversation begins.
Online Therapy FAQs
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
For many concerns, yes. Research shows online therapy can be as effective as in-person sessions for anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship challenges. Some people still prefer meeting face to face, and your psychologist can help you decide which format suits your goals.
Can I access online therapy from anywhere in Alberta?
Yes. As long as you are physically located in Alberta at the time of your appointment, you can book online therapy with NU Psychology, whether you live in Calgary, a smaller community, or travel within the province.
Is online therapy covered by insurance?
Online sessions are billed and receipted the same way as in-person sessions. Many extended health plans cover psychology services, but coverage varies, so check your plan’s limits and whether it covers Registered and Provisional Psychologists.
Can I switch between online and in-person sessions?
Often, yes. Many clients mix formats depending on their schedule, the weather, or what feels right that week. Ask your psychologist or our office what is available.
What if I feel nervous about starting therapy online?
That is very common. Your first session will focus on getting to know you and making the process feel comfortable. You can share at your own pace, and there is no pressure to have everything figured out beforehand.
Do you offer phone sessions?
Yes. If video doesn’t work for you, phone sessions are available. Let our office know your preference when you book.
NU Psychology is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, call or text 9-8-8 or call 911.
