 NU Psychology
Strength-Based Therapy

At NU Psychology, we help you focus on what you want to change. Our strength-based approach to wellness creates a meaningful shift in a positive direction.  On the road to change, it can be helpful to have both support and guidance. At NU Psychology, individuals are supported to gain insight and awareness by focusing on goals, challenges, and strengths. This individualized approach helps clients challenge limiting beliefs, create new narratives, and find new coping mechanisms.. Our Psychologists focus on personal growth, personal and workplace challenges, relationship issues, parenting, and improving overall well-being. We also support individuals who have a diagnosis or diagnostic symptoms related to ADHD, Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, ASD, Depression, OCD, and Executive Function Challenges. We help individuals, couples, and offer family and parent consultation. NU Psychology has a full Assessment Clinic that supports individuals who may benefit from Clinical, Career, or Psychoeducational assessments.

NU Psychology specializes in supporting individuals with concerns related to ADHD and related Executive Function challenges, Anxiety, ASD, OCD, and Depression. We  provide clinical, psychoeducational, and ASD assessments. Clients do not need to have an assessment or diagnosis for effective clinical therapy, though at times it can be beneficial. Together we discover the challenges that  help our clients address their most pressing concerns.

NU Psychology conducts assessments for individuals of all ages. We have specialized Assessment Psychologists who provide Clinical Assessments (DSM-V criteria), Psychoeducational Assessments, ADHD Assessments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessments. An assessment can be a beneficial tool for discovering the primary cause of challenges,  guiding treatment, and funding purposes.

NU Psychology provides parent coaching for those who may be struggling with issues related to parenting. We provide parent therapy that address various issues related to boundary and rule setting, managing routines, transitions, and building harmony within the family. We also provide parenting support for parents who may be wondering with how to best support a child with ADHD, ASD, Anxiety, Giftedness, Depression, or OCD.

Our Psychologists also support individuals with ADHD, ASD, Anxiety, Depression, OCD, and Executive Function challenges.

ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITTMENT THERAPY

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a an evidence-based therapy used at NU Psychology. ACT allows individuals to align their actions with their personal goals and values. It encourages individuals to develop flexibility, personal agency, and to move with thoughts and emotions rather than control them. This movement creates space and allows individuals to manage challenges, while making changes that are personally meaningful. At NU Psychology we use the principles of ACT to support our clients to increase overall well-being, manage Generalized and Social Anxiety, Specific Phobias, Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Depression.

Types Of Therapy At Nu Psychology

SOLUTION FOCUSED THERAPY

Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) focuses on problem solving, solution building, and finding creative outcomes for life's challenges.  Solution Focused Therapy  is rooted in the belief that all individuals have the ability to change and grow in adaptive ways. This enables individuals to find new ways to face challenges and make changes in their lives.  NU Psychology believes in the inherent capacity in all individuals. We support our clients when they get stuck and help build capacity for current and future growth. We use Solution Focused Therapy to support our clients to manage symptoms of stress, Anxiety, Depression, and helping our clients find unique outcomes during times of change or adjustment.

COGNITIVE THERAPY

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) helps individuals to better notice and understand their thoughts. As individuals learn to notice their thoughts and change their thought patterns, behaviours follow suit. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy allows individuals to develop an awareness of t thoughts, identify problems more clearly, and learn to distinguish between facts and assumptions. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy supports individuals in creating new habits, patterns, and ways of experiencing the world. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is especially helpful  in treating clinical concerns related to Generalized Anxiety Disorder, ADHD, Social Anxiety, Panic, Depression, and OCD.

POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY

Positive Psychology provides a unique platform for individuals to increase overall strength and wellness. Positive Psychology helps individuals to identify factors that contribute to happiness and well-being. This involves building positive emotions, engagement in meaningful activities and relationships, building a sense of one's own efficacy, and the ability to cope with adversity. At NU Psychology we use the concepts of Positive Psychology to increase positive emotions, meaning, engagement, and personal accomplishment. We work with our clients goals and values to support overall growth and well-being.
